Dr. Ismail B. Celik

Dr. Celik is a renowned scholar in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) which has become an exclusive design tool for industry and an invaluable research tool in the academia. A challenging problem in the CFD applications has been the unknown degree of errors and related uncertainty that is inherent to all computational methods. Dr. Celik’ research has lead to a breakthrough in the area of assessment of accuracy and uncertainty involved in CFD applications, among many other unique contributions in the area of combustion and emissions, turbulence prediction via large eddy simulation (LES), transport processes within fuel cells, assessment of worker exposure to hazardous contaminants, transmission of influenza via aerosols.

Dr. Celik has authored more than 250 technical publications; of these 6 are books edited , one book chapter, one text book on Numerical Methods for Engineers, 6 technical briefs, and more than 65 are archival journal publications. Dr. Celik is a Fellow of ASME and has been an active member of the Fluids Engineering Division (FED) since 1986. Dr. Celik has served in several leadership positions in the Fluids Engineering Division (FED). In particular, he has lead the FED CFD Technical Committee as the chair (1988-1992) and as vice chair (2004-2006) and fostered the idea of performing numerical uncertainty analysis in parallel to experimental uncertainty analysis in research conducted using CFD. He also served as a member of the FED CFD Standard Committee as wells the being a member of the America Nuclear Society (ANS) CFD Guidelines Committee. Dr. Celik has also served as a member of FED Honors and Award Committe and as an Associate Editor to the ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering during 2000-2005 fortopics relevant to engineering applications of CFD and numerical uncertainty in CFD results.
